I just heard something on the radio about prayer. The caller said that when she falls asleep praying, it’s like falling asleep in God’s arms. It got me thinking. Loneliness, especially when we are missing a spouse or loved one, is usually the worst when we try to fall asleep. For some reason that empty spot seems bigger at night.
A friend of mine always says that if you wake up in the middle of the night it’s because God wants you to talk to Him. I believe before you go to sleep is a wonderful time to spend with the Lord. Talk to Him and tell him your fears. Talk to Him about your loneliness, anxiousness, and about that empty spot in the bed. But why not try something new? Picture yourself falling asleep in His arms!
Visualization is a powerful relaxation technique, and is proven to calm us, and actually lower anxiety and depression symptoms. It can help you relax and sleep better. But just imagine the comfort of falling asleep in the arms of Jesus! He is actually there with you, listening, comforting, catching your tears. Imagine the comfort of falling asleep in the arms of the ONE who can protect you from harm, who will walk with you through your trials, who is with you always, the father of compassion, who gives you rest.
Nothing can separate us from Him. So let Him comfort you as you try to fall asleep. He will never leave you or forsake you. I pray that you rest well in His arms and know that you are never alone.
